Building language

Building language skills is one of the main focuses of my classroom. Most of the students in my class have a language based disorder, so it is really important for us to build in opportunities to work on language in every activity we do.
Puzzles are generally thought of as a fine motor activity, but they can easily become a language and fine motor task. This is one of the puzzles that my students do...
Sorry it is on it's side! Anyway....For this puzzle we work on labeling and answering questions. For example, We have the student take out all of the pieces. We then ask the student questions like, "What is something you can lay on?" You can also work on labeling the pieces.
Once you start seeing tasks in multiple ways you will find that almost everything you do in your classroom can become an opportunity for practicing language.
