Why I will continue to offer freebies

Most of you have heard about the group of teachers who have set out to violate teacher authors trust and copyrights. Many of us posted something about it on our Facebook fan pages. It deeply saddened and upset us. Honestly, my first reaction was "I'm done giving away freebies."

The topic at church this past Sunday was giving. Our pastor spoke to us about giving generously, openly and frequently. This situation immediately popped into my head and weighed heavy on my heart. I love getting to know all of you and sharing my resources and knowledge. I think there is no greater resource to teachers than other teachers. We should be here to help and support each other.

This is why I have decided  to continue offering freebies. I want to be part of the group that are working for the greater good. We need to be sharing our ideas, helping and supporting, trying new things, etc. Unlike the FB group I don't want to stand in the way of teachers growing their knowledge and resources.

Opportunities to win or get freebies will be a bit different from now on. I'm looking to develop relationships and interact with my followers. I will be starting to pick random people who have supported me and others on my FB page. Without interactions we can't truly help each other. If you see a helpful tip-share it! If you have a questions- post it! Found a link we should see? Please share it! Let's build up our community...It only leads to good things for our students. That is a WIN in my book!!

  2. I'm not on Facebook so I don't know what the controversy is but I do believe that as a community we owe it to the children we teach and work with to share our wonderful ideas and support those that do - I will certainly continue to create and give freebies - the thanks I receive from grateful colleagues more than "pays" for them :-) I am grateful to you that you also think likewise - keep up your good work and your positive attitude.

  3. I am not a blogger, but I follow every single day. I totally understand the disgust experienced by all of you. I'm also so glad that the children will continue to be blessed by the peace God has given you in this difficult situation.

  4. I want to personally thank you for the freebies that you and other teachers offer. As a new teacher last year I decorated my new room using freebies. Lessons were supplemented with freebies too. Now that I have a little money and the knowledge of what I need... it's easier to shop for the paid items that mean so much to me! Thank you for your blessings!

  6. Very well put! We as teachers must keep helping each other in every way we are able! Thank you for sharing this on your blog. I am still debating whether to address it on my blog and rewording what I'd say over and over.
