5 Ways To Use Clothespins

Once again I am linking up with Kim over at Life Over C's to bring you ideas on how to use leftover craft supplies. Today is all about clothespins. There are TONS of things you can do with clothespins. Here are five different ideas for you.

Number 1: Clip cards
This is the perfect way to work on all sorts of different concepts and skills while strengthening fingers. Clip cards can be made for almost any skill. Here is an example of working on reading written number words.
Number 2: Matching sets to numbers

This is a simple center or work task to make using tag-board or a paper plate for the circle.

Number 3: Easy differentiation
Here is an example of how a work task can easily be differentiated without having to make a whole new set. I keep both sets of clothespins in the same bag and just pull out the ones that best meets the needs of the student.

Number 4: Sorting tasks

Do you have different sized clothespins? That is all you need to work on sorting big and little! Here are examples of two different ways you could do it. In the first picture the task is only working on sorting by size. The task in the second picture works on sorting, strengthening fingers and hand eye coordination.

Number 5: Identifying name and classroom organization

I don't know about you, but my classroom is busy! All of my students leave the room for one or more different therapy, so students are coming and going all day long. I need to be able to look up and quickly know where a student is if s/he isn't in the classroom. Here is an example of the system I set up on the classroom door.

When a student leaves the room he or she has to find the clothespin with his/her name on it and move it to the correct therapy. While I developed this system to give myself a quick visual to check, it is also beneficial to the students. Students have to be able to find and identify their name in a messy field, they work on strengthening their fingers by clipping and un-clipping and they work on reading the different therapy words. Here is a close-up of what it looks like when a student moves the clip to a therapy.

I hope you have learned some new ways to use clothespins. Be sure and check out more ideas HERE.
