Classroom makeover!

Sorry I have been MIA. I have been spending all of my time giving my classroom a face lift! Over the next few days I am going to be blogging about some of the changes. First up was redoing my storage at the front of the classroom. I moved the shelf and plastic drawers to the front of the room this summer, but felt like it would distract my kiddos. Here is what it looked like:
Most of my students already struggle with attending skills, so I needed to figure out a way to hide all the colors and enticing items. Many teachers cover their plastic drawers with scrapbooking paper, so I tried that first. EPIC FAIL!! I couldn't get the paper to lay flat or look good. I started researching other options when my mom suggested spray painting them. Did you know they make special spray paint for plastic? I didn't! This is what I bought...
I got it at Walmart for $4.34. The three plastic drawers took up most of one can. I needed 3 cans total. It is very easy to use. I spray painted on my lawn (FYI my hubby says you should put something down under it and not spray the grass like I did! LOL!). This is what I started with...
It dries to the touch within 15 minutes. According to the can you can handle it after an hour, but I let it sit overnight. The can also says that it becomes chip resistant after 7 days. Yay!
I am SOOOO in love with the results!!!
Here is a closer look:
I chose a hunter green shade in satin finish, but there were a good amount of other choices. I'm really happy with how it came out.
Stay tuned tomorrow for my next project!!

  1. The drawers look beautiful -- they're very neat and organized. It's amazing how well they hide all of the items that are inside.

  2. I love this idea, and am going to try it this summer! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Wow, that is a GREAT idea! The drawers turned out great! I might just have to go get a purchase order ready later this week! Thanks for sharing!!
