Sound unit part 2

As I mentioned yesterday we just finished up our sound unit. At the end we made different types of musical instruments to put our knowledge into practice. Yesterday I talked about the homemade harmonicas we made (click here for that post). Today's post is about making an instrument out of different, more random items. We made sound with string, peg board, nuts and bolts.

Once we threaded the string through the eye bolt we had to keep turning the bolt until the string was very tight. Then we were able to pluck the string to make sounds. It was a fun activity, but a little challenging for my students with severe fine motor skills. Make sure you have lots of helpers available!

What types of activities do you do to cover the sounds unit? Drop me a comment. I would love to hear about it!
